Happy Birthday

First trip to Martha's Vineyard in the summer of 2000.

Seven years later. Mallorca 2007

Today will be a light posting day. You see my 'baby' is turning 11 today and I have a house full of boys coming over to spend the night (sigh)! I still can't believe I am old enough to have a preteen!! Lucky for me he is truly the sweetest child in the world. Last night we went out for a pre-birthday celebration (wonder where that comes from) complete with large steaming bowls of mussels. It was such a fun and delightful 2 hour conversation with our son. While a part of me is sad to see him getting older the other part of me delights in having "grownup" conversation.

Happy Birthday buddy! We love you!

p.s. Did I mention the birthday gift...an electric guitar! There goes my sanity, what's left of it!

  2. Ronda, I love that photo of the 2 of you! You look great in your straw hat and he's so cute. It's not strange he should be such a sweet kid, coming from such a genuinely kind and gracious mother. Happy Birthday to him!

  4. I know that your little guy will have an "all the best birthday" -
Love the photo of you 2, nothing like the bond between boys and their Moms.

  5. Happy birthday to your little boy! May I suggest ear plugs for you to accompany the guitar? haha -maybe something cute ala Breakfast at Tiffany's with tassels on the ends!

  8. Happy birthday to you son! I have two girls and then later we added our son, who is almost 8. There is something SO special about a boy. I adore my son, quirky boy things and all! We've been through the teen years with our girls and all I can say is HOLD ON TIGHT and LET GO all at the same time! You'll do great, both of you!

  17. Happy birthday live from Uruguay!
I'd like to say he's super cute but at that age, this not so little one might find that too embarrassing...

  18. Great pictures. You are good mom for giving him the electric guitar. My son has been playing since age 9 - now he's 14 and takes requests from his mom! (although he has put his foot down when I've asked for REO Speedwagon.)

  19. Boys are the best! It is kind of sad when they start to grow up, but I guess each phase brings fun new times.

    Congrats to both of you!

  20. Ronda, That's a great photo. Believe me after those (ahem) unfortunate ages of 13 to 16, you will have the best friend you ever had. My late Mom and I had the greatest friendship from when I turned 16 until I was 37. It was rich beyond measure and I miss her daily, but the foundation she gave me will never leave me, nor will the memories. I treasure my childhood with her, but the real treasure was the friendship that developed after I grew something besides a brain stem. Enjoy your baby, but the best is yet to come.
