First it was the blog, followed by Facebook and A Small World. Now it's Twitter. I'm not 100 percent sure what to do with Twitter just yet. Any advice is much appreciated. In the meantime you can follow
All the Best Blog while I figure it all out. Perhaps it's all very simple and I am over thinking the whole thing...that is quite possible.
I followed you..I am new to it to so we can all learn together...but its good for shopping i think..
ReplyDeleteOhhhhh shopping...that sounds promising!
ReplyDeletei signed up for twitter but do not tweet- i honestly just don't get it. but i have the feeling it might fall into a pattern established by facebook- i signed up for it, didn't get it and ignored it for a year. one day i decided, i'm gonna figure out what people see in that FB, and now i wonder how i ever lived without it...
ReplyDeleteWhat are @replies?
ReplyDeleteM21,
ReplyDeleteI'm a facebooker big time. But I'm not sure yet about tweeting. I'll give it a go, maybe I'll change my mind.
I get it, I just don't have that much to say that often and it has become one more thing to update...
ReplyDeleteThere is that Blushing Hostess, yet one more update. It just seems to me that suddenly everyone is now on Twitter.
ReplyDelete@replies is when you send a comment back to someone you are following as in @KDepp to send me something in answer to something I have put out. At least that is how I am using it! If you mouse-over the small pic at the left of a tweet it will change into four symbols. The return arrow will give you a @replies. Try it with someone and see if your tweet is then posted with the @to whomever you sent it.
ReplyDeleteThanks Karen. Usually I figure this stuff out really quickly. Don't know why I am blocking on the Twitter.
ReplyDeleteI was skeptical too, but find after doing it for a week or so I like it better than fb. It seems a bit less cumbersome.
ReplyDeleteI can't figure Twitter out......
ReplyDeletesame thoughts on twitter but this is the deal, it's more like headline news. plane crashes in the hudson, it was on twitter and out there with phone pics before any news crew were out there. It was truly amazing. but I believe that is what it is most beneficial for, newsworthy events, as you can't really type much. It can be for your thoughts as well, but it is not that different from blogging or facebook as you have to go on someone's twitter page to get any real content.
ReplyDeleteI just made an account yesterday but I don't understand it at all so don't feel bad.
ReplyDeleteShopping? Really? How?
ReplyDeleteI'm just not certain I want to "tweet". Doesn't sound like something a grown-up should do somehow. But then again...shopping.

ReplyDeletecorrection about @Replies. When you use Tweetdeck (an application that lets you track tweets on your desktop) is when you can reply using the avatar mouse-over (www.tweetdeck.com). When you are just on Twitter to the right of the latest tweet from someone is a star and an arrow. Clicking the arrow will post a reply to that post. On the menu on the right hand side of your page is the @replies sign. Clicking that will bring up all the replies you have received to a post.
Sorry about the confusion! Twitter is something you just have to play around with. There are many professional groups there as well as interesting persons to follow who are in all fields - design, travel, writing, food etc.
Give it a try - I am sure you will pick up some good news and sites, blogs, and sources to visit.
Interesting..., I'm not sure either as to whether I want to get into Twitter or not, I do have a facebook page..., "if in doubt leave it out"..., or just give it a try, right.
ReplyDeleteI signed up recently on Twitter, but I believe it's only purpose is to update your status and receive updates on what are other people are doing. I have not found any feature that allows interaction though. All tips are welcomed!
ReplyDeleteI am a follower, but not a tweeter, I guess I really find that I could use so many more hours in my day to do more things like draw, paint, or be there for my family. But then again, thanks to you - here I am in blog land and love it.
ReplyDeleteRhonda-
ReplyDeleteI have been on twitter a little while and have seen that it drives a ton of people to my blog. The difference in facebook and twitter is people on twitter don't want to just hear your status, they only want to hear it if it is helpful to them in some way. So as opposed to saying, "I just ate a hamburger" as you might on facebook, which doesn't add value to the twitter stream, the twitter version should be more like "just ate the best hamburger in my life here" and then you add a link to your blog talking about the hip hamburger joint on 5th Avenue in NYC with cool photos and links. Your followers on twitter now have added value for following you, otherwise, as many others have mentioned, twitter is just another version of facebook and one more thing to have to maintain. If used properly, twitter can be an amazing marketing tool!I have tons of other tips we can email about. I think you will find it exciting!
Thank you Tobi!! That's great advice! Speak soon!

It's easy and addicting. I'll be following you.
ReplyDeleteI have to add I follow lots of writer friends and have fun conversations on twitter. I also learn up to the minute info.
ReplyDeleteI followed you to. I recommend varying your statements, replies and links so that people see value in your tweets.
ReplyDeleteIt is a great community and people are always willing to help each other out.
I'm avoiding Twitter myself (and being taken to task for it,) but one thing you could do is Twitter your lastest url to this blog on it. Or if you see something done that might inspire for the day...yellow jonquils against a dark gray wall, a vase of spring green leaves on a wooden table. I know. Like you have the time to add one more thing, but at the very least, a reminder to your followers that another post is up.
