Random Post

The greatest thing about writing a blog is sharing a small part of your life with readers. After two-and-a-half years of blogging I feel a certain connectedness to my blog and readers. It is a wonderfully surreal relationship, and one that is difficult to explain to anyone who doesn’t read blogs.

As most of you know, my focus is supporting creative minds, forging relationships and supporting the design community at large via blogging. But sometimes it’s fun to do something unexpected and out of character, hence the reason for this post.

Last night I took our son to a Green Day concert. Unfortunately my husband returned home to Scotland last week, so I was going solo. I’ve not been to a concert in a few years and this happened to be our son’s first. A few hours before the concert I felt a slight feeling of panic. What in the world does a 39-year-old wear to a Green Day concert!?!

Once we arrived, I realized that it really did not matter. To use a Green Day line, I had the time of my life. It also served as a good reminder: some things never change, age is a state-of-mind and most importantly, it’s really cool to witness your child’s first concert!

PostScript: In the end I decided not to worry and not try too hard! Quite honestly, there are few things worse than not being true to who you are. I opted for a White + Warren T-shirt, Levis, Converse and a CC Skye bracelet—casual and comfortable. And, for the record, my son is on his skateboard. He is not taller than me, yet!

  1. I'm sure you looked terrific no matter what you wore. It's sounds like your priorities were in-check. It is more about your son's experience & being there with him than your attire. Glad you had a great time. I wanted to be there, love Green Day!

  7. Scot my husband said the same thing! He sent an email this morning and wrote, "Bet you never thought you would see Billie Joe Armstrong's face on your blog."

You've got to mix it up!!! LOL!

  8. Hey, well, I have to post what I put on Facebook. You look GREAT. And keep in mind, Billy Joe Armstrong is 37. He is part of this generation. How cool your son loves a punk rocker your own age ! That is awesome.

  9. It sounds like you were comfortable, which is probably a good thing at a concert! That must have been a great concert, too. I like Green Day, myself.

  10. Thanks Michaela and Kathy! It really is pretty cool when you can still enjoy your "growing" child and still appreciate all types of music! I love jazz, but I'm a Green Day fan too!

  15. You can never go wrong with levi's! Haha, they are classic. I have to agree with Brillante home decor, you two look so cool! And does ANYONE really care what others are doing, or wearing for that matter, at a GREEN DAY CONCERT?? They are a great band with such great energy. I would imagine that all eyes were on them and you could have worn roller skates and no one would have noticed! LOL Great post!

  18. These personal ponderings make the blog so much more interesting... because though we love learning about all the design mavens you teach us about, we also love learning about you!!! Something I find funny is that when I take clients on Diva Tours, they dont want to talk about the history of the Louis so-and-so and how his court influences the world still today, they want to talk about the random personal ponderings I post from time to time. Readers connect with you and your life. I've found it fun following you on twitter, seeing your trip through the USA and getting snippets of your life!
    All the best,
    Toma

  24. Having two teenagers myself, I must say that the aspect of this that I am most impressed with is that your son was cool with being at a concert with his mom.

I am so glad that you both had such a good time...it sounds like a very special evening regardless of who was playing and what was worn.

    My best,
    Tricia - Avolli

  25. This is the first time I am making a comment on your site, although I visit it at least every other day, and have for about a month or so. I love it! But, I am absolutely shocked that you have a child, and that he is not a little one, either. You certainly do not look old enough to have such a big boy! :)

  28. Well I'm 47 and share a lot of the same music tastes as my 20 year old daughter. We go to lots of concerts together. We've seen HIM (twice), AFI, Green Day, Red Hot Chili Peppers, among a lot of others well known and not so well known. Music is the common ground that gets us talking when we've had a spat and want to make up.
