I have long been a fan of acclaimed British designer William Yeoward. His style and interiors are always marked by subtle sophistication, easy elegance and creative charm. Certainly in the UK, Yeoward is star in the world of fine home furnishings, crystal, linens, fabric, lighting, sterling flatware and English bone china.His book William Yeoward on Entertaining is one of my favorites. In my tower of magazines I still have a dog-eared copy of Southern Accents featuring a dinner Yeoward held at the home of designer Suzanne Rheinstein. In fact, every year around the holidays, I think of his advice, “When it comes to holidays I don’t experiment. Traditions can be very reassuring. I love the fact that things are tried and tested and work."
Yeoward’s Georgian guest cottage is a testament to his wisdom and genius. After the renovation of his country home left him seriously lacking in guest bedrooms he decided to convert a small unattractive building in the garden. I love that the ground floor is unified in 'Hortense Gold' wallpaper from the designer’s own collection. It gives the cottage such a cozy feeling. It’s has been said that he takes great pride in insisting that the guesthouse is a complete fake and reproduction from start to finish. With results such as this, I would boast too!
The ground floor of the cottage is one large living space with the staircase acting as the central divide.

oh my - i have just been looking at pics. of this myself!!! i love this space and have been following William Yeowards work ever since hearing him talk in Australia a few years ago. He is very talented and a delightful speaker - thank you for bring a smile to my face with these lovely images! KG

ReplyDelete1) I have about 18 pieces of his gorgeous crystal stemware; and
2) I got to meet him in his shop in London in October 2008. He was charming and funny.
Don't forget the influence of his companion, the terrific decorator Colin Orchard, on the interiors!

To follow such a talented designer like William Yeoward or other designers afford us to take a lot of inspiring ideas for creating new homes or to make over old interior to a stylish and sophisticated place. I appreciate his decision to convert a small unattractive building into a beautiful guesthouse. His choice of colours, fabrics, wallpapers and all the small accessories made this project so successful.
