And Yet Another...Metropolitan Home

I just returned home to this sad new:
New York, N.Y., Nov. 9, 2009 - Alain Lemarchand, President & CEO, Hachette Filipacchi Media U.S. (HFM U.S.) today announced that the company will discontinue publication of Metropolitan Home magazine with the December 2009 issue as the last edition.

“Metropolitan Home has been the premier publication for modern design. Over the past 26 years, Donna Warner has led the editorial team with a vision focused on the highest standards, which has produced this respected modern luxury publication. On behalf of the company, I want to thank Donna and her team for serving with such dedication,” said Lemarchand. I for one will very much miss Met Home.

I was very sad to read this too. This is another reason why Bloggers like you are very important to the coverage of interior design.

I just read this on Katiedid, I am sick about this. What is the future of publishing? I understand the green quality of online publications and appreciate it; however, there is definitely something lost in translation from glossy paper to computer screen. And to think there are so many bad ones being printed daily....ugh. Well, thank you Metropolitan Home for the many great years. I second your emotion, I too will very much miss Met Home.

On Wikipedia today (November 9)they say: "The magazine was closed with the December 2009 issue"...What a necrology! but let's not despair, changes are part of life.

I know!! SO sad!

They also featured fun recipes, which is weird to note in a design magazine, but I loved them!

I get Metro Home and I'm so frustrated with all these publishers deciding which publicatins to seize leaving us with the crappy magazines. I love this magazine, same with House & Garden, Cottage Living and Domino my absolute favorite have every issue and constantly refer to it - I understand magazines are loosing advertising dollars however, I think it is unfortunate that these great magazines are being discontinued. One frustrated customer.

I love the new world of blogs - I adore yours! It is amazing to get so many creative and educated views on demand now.

But I do miss all my shelter mags...It was a thrill to see our work in the pages - and who doesn't have files of "someday" projects pulled out of the pages, I have libraries of mag that I refer to constantly.
Let's hope they are able to return someday.

I wasn't so much a fan of Met Home, but it's still sad to see another magazine fold. I was devastated when House & Garden closed, and then Vogue Living went down... I'm holding onto my World of Interiors for DEAR LIFE!

Really interesting to think what this will do for the world of blogs, isn't it?
